  • Overview

Agenus is seeking a highly skilled, creative, and self-motivated Scientist to establish our new Immune Receptor Sequencing and Genomics group in Cambridge, UK. The successful candidate will thrive in a multi-disciplinary team focusing on the discovery and characterization of novel immune-modulatory and cancer therapeutic entities. The SRA will play a critical role in the implementation and optimization of next generation sequencing-based methods centered around functional immune receptor discovery and profiling. The SRA will be working closely with the genomics platform team of our local cell therapy spin-out, and will furthermore interact proactively and recurrently with our Lexington, MA-based bioinformatics, translational medicine and pre-clinical R&D teams. This is a fantastic opportunity for a self-motivated team player to perform critical exploratory experiments and to promote novel concepts and ideas for an immediate translational impact.

    • Processing of different biological samples and execution of established sequencing workflows, including human and mouse immune repertoire profiling, sequencing of output from discovery screening campaigns (phage display and mammalian display), and other in-house pre-clinical research assays.
    • Conceptualizehigh-quality proof-of-concept experiments under senior guidance and independently carry out experimental designs to validate new workflows and ensure data reproducibility.
    • Test and implement molecular strategies for the profiling of immune cells (T cells and B cells from TILs, PBMCs or splenocytes), leveraging the resolution and sensitivity of state-of-the-art single cell sequencing technologies.
    • Ensure accurate recording of the sample-to-data process and the timely delivery of data analysis packages, where required through close interaction with bioinformatics experts.
    • Oversee and arrange material shipping logistics, storage and inventory.
    • Responsible for high quality of documentation, laboratory notebooks and protocols.
    • Participate and present data in research group meetings locally as well as through video conferencing.
    • Stay current with industry standards and trends. Evaluate new genomics technologies, procedures, and technical developments for their potential to positively impact Agenus’ ongoing activities.

    • M.Sc. with a strong applied background in molecular biology or genomics technologies. A minimum of 4 years post-degree experience, preferably gained in industry.
    • Demonstrated creativity, critical thinking and trouble-shooting skills in the context of applying molecular biology protocols.
    • Experience with next generation sequencing applications and library construction (targeted panels, RNA-seq, WES, WGS or similar).
    • Experience with general molecular biology methods including PCR and qPCR.
    • Experience with nucleic acid isolation and quality control.
    • Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to effectively work with scientists of different disciplines.
    • Excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
    • Thorough data analysis and interpretation skills are essential. Additional experience with processing and analyzing large data sets using R, Python or other programming languages would be beneficial, but is not required.
    • Knowledge of immune receptor (TCR, BCR) structure and biology is preferred.
    • Prior experience with single cell-based sequencing methods is preferred.
    • Knowledge of tumor immunology would be a plus.
    • Experience with primary cell culture would be a plus.
